Nestled on the traditional lands of the Wonnarua and Kamilaroi people, Murrurundi dares you to slow down and breathe a little deeper.

The history of the Murrurundi Town Gateway Sign (EAST). In 2000, Murrurundi woke to find a corrugated iron Town sign with jumping sheep had been erected during the night by local artists Charlotte Drake-Brockman and Fran Wachel. Murrurundi Shire Council subsequently commissioned Fran and Charlotte to make this a permanent Gateway sign, which was installed in 2001. The Gateway sign celebrates the proud tradition of wool production in the Murrurundi district.

Many locals and those who visit our valley say it holds a kinetic energy — a warmth that feels like a hug — and once you feel it, you’ll find yourself lingering a little longer… perhaps even forever.
